 Community Involvement

Community Booth Access:

Sherway Gardens' Community Booth is available to non-profit organizations on a first-come, first-served basis subject to approval. Written requests may be submitted to Tania Cristello by Fax at (416) 620-7918 or via email to tania.cristello@cadillacfairview.com for consideration.   Each group is restricted to one occasion per year at the Community Booth, and all requests are subject to advance approval and adherence to Sherway's Community Booth display standards, rules and regulations.

Giving Grows / Charity:

Sherway Gardens is dedicated to working with, and on behalf of, the local community to assist with raising funds and/or awareness of programs and initiatives that benefit us all.  It is our duty and pleasure to give back through our partnerships with dozens of organizations over the course of a year.  Below is a brief summary of some of the ways in which we have seen how  "Giving Grows" at Sherway.

Sleeping Children Around the World (www.scaw.org)
This registered Canadian charity has been the recipient of our Santa Experience ticket sales for the past 7 holiday seasons. SCAW provides bed kits containing basic essentials for everyday living which are distributed to children in developing countries. In recent years, the money raised at the Sherway Santa Experience has provided bed kits for children in Togo, Tanzania, Honduras, The Philippines and Kenya. The 2008 Santa Experience raised an impressive $30,100 - enough to give 860 children a better life. 100% of all donations go directly to the children.

Red Door Family Shelter (www.reddoorshelter.ca)
Women and children, victims of family violence, arrive at the Red Door Family Shelter hurt and feeling alone - and often with nothing more than the clothes on their backs.  The Red Door Family Shelter provides emergency housing, safety and shelter - and a chance at a new beginning.  For the past several holiday seasons, we have donated all proceeds from Sherway's Red Door Wreath Fundraiser to the Red Door Family Shelter. More than $2,000 was raised this past season alone.

The Salvation Army - Mississauga Community & Family Services and Lakeshore Community Church (www.salvationarmy.ca)
The largest non-governmental provider of social services in Canada, The Salvation Army, is represented at Sherway during the holiday season each year with the annual Kettle Campaign and the Holiday Gift Wrap Service.   The funds raised through both these initiatives provide food and clothing for thousands of needy families right in our own community throughout the holiday season and beyond.

Trillium Health Centre Foundation
Each holiday season, the tireless volunteers of the Trillium Health Centre give their time and energy to run the Gingerbread Cookie Factory. All proceeds from this annual event are donated to the Trillium Health Centre Foundation to help support the building of the new inpatient wing at Trillium-Mississauga and to expand and redevelop West Toronto (formerly known as Queensway General Hospital) into a state-of-the-art Ambulatory Care Centre.

Toy Mountain - CTV & The Salvation Army
For many years now, Sherway has hosted Toy Mountain donation bins for the month leading up to Christmas.  And every year Sherway staff and customers generously fill these bins day after day. Thousands of children have had a happier Christmas because of Toy Mountain. And again last year, visitors to the Sherway Santa Experience donated an additional 600 toys to Toy Mountain.

Give a Kid a Coat - CHFI 98.1 Fundraiser (www.chfi.com)
In November 2008, Sherway teamed up with CHFI 98.1 to help Give a Kid a Coat. Bob Magee camped out on the Sherway parking lot without a coat for 3 days and nights - and generous listeners and Sherway customers donated over 10,000 coats - breaking the previous record.

Throughout the past year, Sherway also worked with numerous other community and non-profit organizations on special events, or provided Community Booth space. Some of these included:

*Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Foundation
* The Toronto Fire Fighters Association for Princess Margaret Hospital
* World Vision
* Hospital for Sick Children
* Lakeshore Arts Council
* Canadian Blood Services
* Neilson Park Creative Centre
* Eat My Words for the Stephen Lewis Foundation
* Arts Etobicoke
* The Heart & Stroke Foundation
* The Canadian Cancer Society
* CNIB Crocus Campaign
* Mississauga Living Arts Centre
* Big Brothers/Big Sisters
* Guide Dogs of Canada
* MS Carnation Campaign

We sincerely thank all our customers for their generous support and contributions to Sherway's many fundraising efforts throughout the year.
